Hot action expected in netball quarter-finals
published: Saturday | June 3, 2006

THE 2006 GraceKennedy/Spring Time Western Hotels Sports Association All-island hotels netball competition continues this afternoon with quarter-final matches.

First-time entrants Sandals Whitehouse European Village Resort and Spa face a potentially difficult match against Grand Lido Braco Resort and Spa in Rio Bueno, Trelawny.

The Grand Lido Braco team, apart from an early season loss to pre-season favourites St. Ann Bauxite Partners of Jamaica (Kaisers Sports Club), have been in devastating form, winning seven matches in a row in convincing fashion.

They are expected to have national senior players Nichala Gibson in their starting line-up for today's match along with Sashagay Henry and former national Under-16 player Serene Wallace.

Over at HiLo in Negril, Beaches Negril Resort and Spa host defending champions Sandals Inn, the youngest team in the competition and coached by one of western Jamaica's most respected coaches, Clint Parkins.

This will be a test for the Negril team despite favourable results in their preliminary matches as Sandals Inn have gone from strength to strength and seem to be peaking at the right time in a quest for a repeat.

In a match which itself is a final, St. Ann Bauxite Partners of Jamaica, formerly Kaisers Sports Club, will host former three-time champions Sandals Montego Bay.

This match can go either way and with the possibility of Romelda Aitken and Kassey Evering not being available for the home team, the dynamic Sandals Montego Bay with manager Marlon Tingling at the helm could create an upset.

The fourth quarter-final will be played next Thursday when many-time champions Sandals Negril Beach Resort and Spa host the winners of Monday's match which features Golden Seas Beach Resort and Couples Negril.

The semi-finals are tentatively scheduled for next week Saturday with the championship match on Saturday, June 17.
