Eltham lift U-16 crown

ELTHAM HIGH School retained their all-island Grace Under-16 cricket title following an 80-run win over Vere Technical at Melbourne Oval yesterday.

Replying to Eltham's 288; Vere were dismissed for 208.

Jervin Gordon led the way for Eltham with a patient 78.

The Spanish Town-based school also benefitted from three half-century partnerships, 63 for the fifth wicket between Gordon and Romeo Palmer, 30; 69 for the seventh wicket between Kavin Bonner, 42, and Oshane Baugh,41, and 57 for the second wicket between Kino Paul Sailsman, 43, and Gordon.

Damion Bernard (3-57), Garth Brown (2-24) and Nigel Powell (2-45) were the top wicket takers for Vere.

Resuming yesterday's final day on 39-1, Vere lost their way badly in the morning session and were made to struggle.

Despite an 85-run sixth wicket stand between Rhenako Smith, 57, and Omeany Forbes, 55, Vere lost five wickets in the post tea session.

Akeem James who picked up the last two wickets in two deliveries, finished with 3-65. He was supported by Romeo Dunca (2-15) and Bonner (2-47).
