Jamaica's Jackson impresses despite accident

JAMAICA'S JOEL Jackson continued his campaign to qualify for the September finals of the Formula BMW Series to be held in Spain with a stout-hearted performance at last weekend's events in mid-Ohio and Lime Rock, Connecticut.
Although he did not finish in the frame, the Ardenne High graduate drove well enough to keep his chances alive of qualifying for the next round which is the Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled for June 23-25.
"Joel is extremely talented, he has been working hard and is now developing into a great race driver," said Christopher 'Teach' McFarlane, Jackson's driving coach.
In the opening race last Saturday at mid-Ohio, Jackson got involved in an accident and was unable take further part at the meet.
REAR OF THE PACK
Despite the hard work put in by the engineers overnight to repair the damage in time for race number three, he had to start at the rear of the pack at Lime Rock.
This was because the qualifying session had to be cancelled due to rain and the grid was set by points accumulated by drivers up to that time, instead of the usual qualifying position.
"It was a pleasure to see him start at the back of the 26-car grid and work his way up to the midst," said McFarlane.
Reports are that Jamaica's entry at the event stunned several persons who saw the flag on Jackson's car and came to the pits to meet the first Jamaican to enter this high level of motor racing.
