AS SUMMER approaches and temperatures rise, this spells a no-no for your skin. Through extended exposure to the sun your skin becomes dry, damaged and visibly stressed. To help your skin retain its moisture and natural glow, it will need some special attention.
At a recent visit to Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios, I was given a first-hand experience of the benefits of a milk and honey wrap and how I could do it at home.
A milk and honey wrap replenishes your skin's moisture and as the name suggests, it's a bundle of sweetness.
In a bungalow on the cliffs overhanging the beach you're taken away with the waves crashing onto the rocks below.
The skin's dead cells are removed with a quick body scrub (apricot body scrub or any other can be purchased at your local beauty supplies store). The hotel uses a special German powdered milk which the spa mixes with honey. This is applied to the body and the smell is heavenly.
You are then wrapped in plastic and then towels. This acts as a thermal wrapping opening up the pores and allowing the moisture to penetrate. After about 25 minutes, the wrappings are removed, the paste washed off in the shower and a moisturiser applied to the body.
DO IT YOURSELF
At home you can use powdered milk and a bit of powdered coconut milk. Add the honey to them, mix into a paste and then apply to the body.
The body can be wrapped with plastic or you use towels soaked with warm water. Remain covered for about 25 minutes.
This will leave you with a natural and healthy glow and silky soft skin from nature's finest.
