SPANISH TOWN:
CORPORAL LINCOLN Parker of the Special Anti-Crime Task Force was murdered by gunmen at a dance in De La Vega City in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, yesterday.
He is the seventh member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force killed this year, and the second in a week. On Saturday, May 27, Detective Sergeant Desmond Carter was shot and killed in the Ensom City area of Spanish Town.
The Constabulary Com-munication Network reported that a 25-year-old constable, who was also at the dance, as shot.
Cpl. Parker was shot several times in the head by two men about 3:30 a.m. while he was standing near a utility pole along Sixth Way where the De La Splash dance was in progress.
The men reportedly walked away, leaving Cpl. Parker with his 9-millimetre pistol. The police said they found more than 20 spent shells at the scene.
Deputy Superintendent Merval Smith of the St. Catherine North Police division, said Cpl. Parker may have been targeted. He was born and raised near to where he was killed and was said to be popular in the community.
National Security Minister Dr. Peter Phillips said the incident was a "grim reminder that these criminals are testing our resolve and trying to do everything to hold back the recovery of Spanish Town."
Derrick Smith, the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party's Spokesman on National Security, also expressed his outrage at the murder.
"The manner of the attack suggests that it must have been witnessed by a number of persons and we are urging those persons to come forward with eyewitness information," Mr. Smith said in a statement.
