GAME TWO in the best-of-three Berger Paints Super League netball final was postponed yesterday, after inclement weather put a stop to the third-place play-off between Waulgrovians 'A' and Tivoli 'B' at the Leila Robinson Courts.
The play-offs were supposed to serve as the curtain raiser for the final between Jamalco and Tivoli 'A', who have their backs against the ropes after the former took a 1-0 lead in the series on Friday night after narrow 51-48 win.
President of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA), Marva Bernard, assured the disappointed fans on hand yesterday, who stayed well into the night with the hope that more netball would be played, that the games would be on at the National Indoor Sports Complex this evening at six o'clock.
At the point that the rains came, the game between Waulgrovians 'A' and Tivoli 'B' began to look like a no-contest.
Starting quickly, Waulgrovians 'A' romped to a 15-7 first-quarter lead and looked in no trouble as Suzette DeSouza had shaken off her bad game against Jamalco in the semi-final to look authoritative in the circle, while Oberon Pitterson and her company in defence stifled Tivoli's attempts to get forward.
When the game ended with nine minutes and 34 seconds to go in the second quarter, Waulgrovians had already taken a commanding 18-9 lead.
However, the dominance of Waulgrovians will not matter one iota, with the game having to be replayed in its entirety.
The delay of the second game of the best-of-three final is not expected to take away from its sheen, as both teams still have all to play for.
Tivoli are still the only team to beat Jamalco in the last two seasons and while Nicole Henry and Romelda Aiken, who sank 43 goals from 50 attempts, have resolved their issues after their spat last week, they will be going all out against each other nonetheless.
Fans can also still expect a keen contest between Tivoli's Peter-Gaye Thomas and Jamalco's Nadine Bryan in the centre of the court.
In the meantime, Nicole Aiken will be up against it when Cleopatra Grant, who sank 44 goals from 52 attempts last time out, manipulates the shooting arc to get Tivoli high numbers on the scorer's table.
