Private Montego Bay jet centre by Christmas
published: Wednesday | June 7, 2006

PRIVATE JET visitors to the north coast will have an exclusive new way to get to Jamaica with the start of the development of the IAM Jet Centre in Montego Bay.

The centre will be operated by International Aircraft Manage-ment (IAM), a Barbados based company providing VIP handling and fuel services for corporate aircraft operators visiting the Caribbean and Latin America. Ground was broken for the new 4,500 sq. ft. facility at the Sangster International Airport last Thursday.

"The private terminal is discreetly situated apart from the busy commercial terminal at Sangster," said IAM Jet Centre CEO, Paul Worrell. "To accommodate our VIP clientele, a separate roadway linking the jet centre to the main highway is also being constructed."

The new road will ensure customers have a smooth, traffic-free entry onto the main highway. The terminal will include dedicated in-house customs and immigration processing, lounge accommodations and high speed Internet service.

Jorge Sales, CEO of MBJ Airports Ltd. which operates the Sangster International Airport under a thirty (30) year concession agreement said the new private jet terminal at MBJ is slated to open its doors in mid-December, 2006, just in time for the busy winter season and months before the Cricket World Cup (CWC).

"We anticipate a large increase in corporate and private jets during the CWC event and with the new facility in place, we will be able to exceed customer expectations," Mr. Sales said. "The jet centre's apron, capable of providing parking spaces for numerous private and corporate jet aircraft has already been completed as part of our phase one expansion."

MBJ outsourced the service to IAM so that it could serve the special requirements of private jet operators which is now becoming a significant line of business at the airport.

Through its IAM operations centre in Barbados, International Aircraft Management Inc. (IAM) has been providing VIP services to visiting private and corporate aircraft across the Caribbean region since 1989.
