Police body backs Commissioner
published: Wednesday | June 7, 2006

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA (CMC):

The Police Association says it 'unreservedly' supports embattled Police Commissioner Winston Felix, and urged the Guyana government to step away from demanding that he responds to allegations it firmly believes are coming from drug traffickers.

"We unreservedly express full support for Commissioner of Police Winston Felix, and will continue to support him in his courageous assault on the drug barons and other criminal enterprises which are preying on the people of our country," the group said in a statement.

It followed last weekend's letter by Prime Minister Sam Hinds that Felix respond immediately to "complaints, accusations and/or allegations being made against him."
