Abbey Court and Reka Dom
published: Friday | June 9, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ Barry Rattray's article about Abbey Court online and only wish that he had been able to include an old photo or line drawing of Abbey Court.

Some years ago, I visited Reka Dom, on the south-western corner of Trafalgar Road, opposite Abbey Court, and wrote an article which was published in the Gleaner's Sunday Magazine on May 13, 1988 and later in the Jamaican Historical Society's Bulletin in April 1996 along with two photos which I took at the time.

Of course, Reka Dom burnt down in February 1996 and Abbey Court had disappeared long before I went to visit Reka Dom sometime in 1987 or 1988.

While understanding that progress has to take place and indeed knowing that many of the old houses were decrepit and in need of replacement, it would be good to have some record of them so that all their splendour and history is not lost forever.

I am, etc.,
