Majesty Gdns rule
published: Saturday | June 10, 2006

Robert Bailey, Gleaner Writer

MAJESTY GARDENS are the 2006 Liquid Petroleum Gasolene (LPG)/ Southern Conference Basketball champions.

On Thursday night they etched out an easy 90-74 victory over Waterhouse in Game Three of their best of three finals series at the National Stadium Courts for a 2-1 aggregate.

Majesty Gardens had won Game One in a nail-biting 67-66 finish, but lost narrowly to the Blazers 77-76 in Game Two.

Thursday's decider witnessed an exciting first half with both teams trading basket for basket. Majesty had quarterly leads of 19-17, 45-31 and 61-49.

Captain and MVP Baldon Todd was inspirational for Majesty Gardens. Todd had a game-high 32 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 12 of these points during the second quarter that saw Majesty Gardens stepping up the tempo on their way to establishing a 14-point lead.

With the Majesty Gardens spectators shouting "trophy! trophy!" and defeat staring the Blazers in the face, the losers fought back gallantly in the fourth quarter through their leading scorer, Raymond Lade, who at one point scored six unanswered points to cut the deficit to six with less than four and a half minutes remaining. But that was as close as they got.

Majesty Gardens coach Richard Bailey called a time out after which Kemar McLeish came up big with two three-pointers which effectively killed off Waterhouse's hopes.
