Rains, World Cup and Omen
published: Saturday | June 10, 2006

Jah Foresight, Contributor

I HAVE visited two of the flattest areas in Jamaica to see how people are preparing themselves. There is a massive drainage system being built in Great Bay, St. Elizabeth. In Rocky Point, Clarendon, the drains are filled with plastic bottles and other rubbish and are in urgent need of cleaning. Clarendon is one of the parishes that had problems during this week. Last year, this time, June 9, the first hurricane for the season, Arlene, was developed. We should consider ourselves still lucky this year.

The World Cup for football is on us. Thirty-two different nations are on the world stage. You can bet that productivity might go up or down during this period. The rich have already started their holiday in Germany. You might be surprised at the number of Jamaicans you will find in those stadiums. Meanwhile, on the island, you will hear sporadic screaming in the workplace if there is a television set around. If there is none, people will be slipping out of work to watch matches. Places like bars will be filled, since the best feeling is to watch a game with a lively crowd. The banks will be a noisy place to go to. Everyone is saying that Brazil will be the winner. I am normally the supporter of the underdogs. Love the African nations and my eyes are on France, England and naturally Trinidad and Tobago. Never underestimate the underdogs.

What about the cricket? I can tell you that at this time cricket will be in a distant second place. The West Indies team will have to be extra brilliant and Brian Lara hitting double centuries to break the spell of football. Asafa Powell will have to create a new world record to break the interest from football. Beenie Man will have to get married in the stadium.

AT THE MOVIES

The movie Omen tops box office. The movie was deliberately opened on June 6, 2006. The number 666 is referred to in Christianity as the mark of the beast and in the Omen, five-year-old Damien Thorn has the number branded on him. The first Omen was screened in 1976 and won an Oscar. Jamaican people are afraid of duppies. Most of the parsons are telling their congregation that they should pass over this one. Evil demons and spirits might be hidden in this movie. They say the same thing with Myal and Kumina. This is a movie for people of the world who need a spiritual wake-up call. It must be strange that some thoughtprovoking movies are on the road at this time. Palace Amusement Company should be amused. Can you imagine that Jamie Foxx will be starring in the Bob Marley movie? What about Kymani who has started his career as an actor and possess dual accents? I would love to hear Jamie cuss some good Jamaican bad words, then I can say that he is authentic.

Lastly, there is big celebration that they have killed the Al Queda leader in Iraq. You have some Jamaicans who are saying that they are the real bad men. I think as part of sentencing, the court should give them a month in Baghdad. I can bet that as November approaches, you will soon hear about the death of Bin Laden. Real bad man buys a lot of lottery tickets.

The numbers for last Saturday were: 1, 12, 16, 17, 22, 34 and the bonus ball of 13. The consecutive numbers were 16 and 17. The numbers for Wednesday were: 1, 19, 21, 29, 32, 37 and the bonus ball of 34. You would have to buy a quick pick to win this one. There was one match five bonus winner of $419,093. The number one was repeated and pushes the jackpot to $22 million this weekend.

My light bill was increased by 100 per cent. How was yours? I would love to win the jackpot to buy some generators.
