Jamaican charmers
published: Wednesday | June 14, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IAN MCDONALD delightfully skewers the macho conceit that it is the male who decides which lucky female will be the beneficiary of his charms (The Gleaner, June 12). While both sexes adorn themselves and behave so as to be attractive to the other, surely it has always been the female who makes the final decision.

It will always be thus, as long as males continue to allow testosterone to rule their behaviour. At least one of the benefits of aging is that a man's brain is controlled to a lesser extent by what is in his trousers. Unfortunately, by then the genetic trap is already sprung.

In addition, imagine a Jamaica where testosterone could be controlled in its mixing with gunpowder and gasoline. Average life expectancy would surely increase.

I am, etc.,
