Claude Davis ... the Jamaican defender is apparently on the shopping lists of Watford, Reading and Sheffield United. - FILE
JAMAICAN INTERNATIONAL Claude Davis could join countrymen Jason Euell, Ricardo Gardner and striker Marlon King in English top-flight football as it seems newly-promoted Reading, Watford and Sheffield United are all eager to sign the 27-year-old defender.
The three teams are said to be looking to strengthen their back lines in preparation for a rugged season in the English Premiership.
Davis, who was instrumental in his team - Preston North End, reaching this year's Championship play-offs looks, to fit the bill and the price-tag.
With Preston falling to Leeds at the first play-off hurdle and the departure of former Preston boss Billy Davies to join Derby County, Davis, who had previously stated that playing in the premiership was his top priority, is likely to snap up any chance of playing in England's top tier rather than playing a third year in the Championship division.
TEAMS STRUGGLING
With the teams all struggling with a lack of funds for transfers, Davis, who is said to fall somewhere within the £2.5 million bracket, comes at a price which all three teams can afford.
Should the defender choose to sign for Watford, he would join teammate King. King also had a solid season in the Champion-ship division and scored 22 goals for Watford in their successful bid for promotion.
The 6' 3" centre half who signed for Preston in 2003 has appeared for the club 35 times and has netted for the club three times.
Davis recently featured for Jamaica in a two-game friendly tour of England which saw the Reggae Boyz fall 4-1 to Ghana and thrashed 6-0 by England.
England and Ghana are currently taking part in the World Cup in Germany.
