DAY TWO of the 18th Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CAC) Championships turned out to be a Bahamas-Barbados affair for the first half of the day as both The Bahamas' male and female teams, as well as Barbados' men recorded wins to boost their chances of supremacy as action continued yesterday at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
Barbados' men rallied from their day one defeat to the U.S. Virgin Islands to thrash St. Kitts/Nevis 94-52 to set up a must-win fixture against hosts Jamaica today in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
Barbados got off to an early lead in the first quarter and had St. Kitts /Nevis trailing by seven points at 19-12. However, the game opened up in the quarter to follow and by the end of the first half with the score 49-20 it was clear Barbados would come away winners.
"We used today's game as a preparation for tomorrow's game against Jamaica," pointed out Barbados ' coach, Dwight Rouse, as he referred to tomorrow's do-or-die game against the host country.
"I know it's going to be a tough game because Jamaica is playing at home, but I know the guys are up to the task," he added.
Meanwhile, St. Kitts/Nevis' coach Glen Phillips expressed disappointment with his team's effort.
"We seem to have a good start each time we play but somewhere in the middle we kind of fluster."
In the day's opening game The Bahamas' females brushed aside Antigua & Barbuda 72-53 to open their winning account in the Championships, while their male counterparts followed in their steps and defeated St. Vincent & The Grenadines 75-62.
