STETHS win rural U-14 title
published: Thursday | June 15, 2006

Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

MANDEVILLE:

ST. ELIZABETH Technical (STETHS), losers to Holmwood in the Headley Cup final, salvaged a youth title by easily defeating Old Harbour by nine wickets yesterday to win the two-day final of the rural version of the Under-14 cricket competition, hosted at Manchester High.

Old Harbour, who were asked to take first strike, were shot out for just 27 in 13 overs, with Odane Powell the chief scorer with eight. Hovering rain clouds as well as pitch conditions may have played a part, but the STETHS pacemen capitalised with Damion Reid snaring four wickets for six runs off five overs, and two wickets each for Andre Mullings, George Powell and legspinner Damion Nelson.

Even with rain halting play for a few hours, STETHS quickly recovered from the loss of Sheldon Samuels for a duck to post the required 28 runs off eight overs with Krishna Graham (14 n.o.) and Desmond Jones (7 n.o.).

Winning coach Clive Ledgister said the latest title would help in the rebuilding process to regain their status in the Headley Cup in the coming years.
