THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON JUNE 1, 2006, on the programme 'Your Issues Live', held at Clarendon College, the public was told that the main road leading from May Pen to Chapelton would be patched out within the next two weeks. Mr. Editor, the frequency with which this road is being patched and repatched will soon bankrupt the Government. Taxpayers' money is being frivolously spent, much to the delight of the contractors.
As far back as 1985 and 1986, this stretch of road was surveyed and resurveyed with the intention of relocating it to higher grounds. By taking it out of the gully course that it now traverses, the distance between May Pen and Chapelton would be shortened by three miles.
Mr. Editor, if the money which is being used to patch and repatch the existing gully course was used from then to construct this new roadway, then this could have been Jamaica's first toll road.
I sincerely hope that the Government will quickly put an end to the wanton waste of our money and put concrete plans in place, so that we can see our taxes at work and not at waste.
I am, etc.,
A.S. JACKSON
