UNSUNG HEROES in 17 Caribbean countries are scheduled to benefit from US$300,000 (J$19.5 million), for outstanding community service in their respective countries.

The announcement was made by Milton Brady, managing director of FirstCaribbean International Bank, at the launch of 'Unsung Heroes 2006', at the Hilton Kingston hotel, in New Kingston, on Wednesday.

SELFLESSNESS

"The programme focuses on the many people who selflessly give of themselves, their resources and their time to improve their communities," Mr. Brady said.

The Unsung Heroes programme was launched in 2003 by FirstCaribbean to highlight the work and achievements of the many outstanding persons who have voluntarily carried out developmental community projects without recognition in the communities across the Carib-bean in which First Caribbean International operates.

"We accept that we must take responsibility to do our part to nurture our Caribbean societies, and that involves recognising and encouraging those among us who do good," Mr. Brady stated.

This year, 25 finalists from the 17 participating countries will be considered for the title of 'Unsung Hero'.
