PRIME MINISTER The Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller has once again stressed the importance of effective leadership and togetherness in building a better country. She made the comments last week (Thursday, June 15) Women's Leadership Initiative (W.L.I) Hearts and Hands Together luncheon at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston.
"I know that leadership is about building quality relationships, learning, changing and creating the environment for individuals and communities to rise above differences, have a common vision, and devise practical means of collaborating to achieve common objectives."
The luncheon, hosted by WLI in conjunction with their sisters of United Way, Miami/Dade was a fund-raising event assisting the organisation's many charitable programmes.

Mrs. Simpson Miller also noted that the combined energies of the women of United Way, who serve in the WLI have shown that the formation of solid bridges with friendship, cooperation, service, understanding and hope. "It only goes to show, once again that great things happen when strong powerful, committed women get together," said Prime Minister Simpson Miller.
Several women of W.L.I and United Way Miami/Dade and from corporate, financial and voluntary service along with several male leaders were present at the luncheon. Sue Miller, founder of United Way W.L.I Miami/Dade in her greetings said she was proud of the organisations' continued growth for the betterment of lives. "I am very proud to hear about the continued momentum that you have created and sustained ... the greatest sweetener in life is reaching out to others and helping others," said Ms. Miller.
WLI, a committee of the United Way of Jamaica, major project is the Voluntary Organisation for the Upliftment of Children (VOUCH), was established in November 2003 from former United States Ambassador Sue Cobb's "Building Bridges Exchange." That initiative fosters economic development, knowledge-sharing and partnering between women business leaders of Jamaica and Florida.
