YOUNG DESIGNER Keneea Linton pulled off her 16-piece collection for Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW), in three days. The collection was inspired by Vogue styles of the 1980s. It was a hit with the audience during the first show on Saturday June 10.
"It has been amazing. The response was good. When I arrived backstage and started putting out my designs, models who were not assigned to my collection kept saying, "This is lovely, can I wear this" said Linton. Using her three-and-a-half-year-old 22-stitch Singer sewing machine Linton started her collection on Wednesday and was finished by show night.
"I think it worked because my clothes were fun and functional."
Linton, 24, has never been formally trained to sew. However, she multi-tasks and is involved in business management and marketing while being an international relations/ philosophy major at the University of the West Indies, Mona. She has had a flair for fashion designing since high school.
Linton and her twin sister, Kenisha, were exceptional art students at Bishop Gibson High School in Manchester. "In visual arts we were at the top of the class." Excelling in craft, drawing, drama and dancing, they even designed cheerleading outfits and received prizes for art and drama throughout high school.
