PEOPLE'S NATIONAL Party (PNP) incumbents Harry Douglas and Dr. Donald Rhodd were yesterday elected as the party's candidates for the next general election.
Mr. Douglas beat contenders Lorane Ferguson, Patrick White and Donovan Nolan for the South-East St. Mary seat, while in Eastern Portland, Dr. Donald Rhodd defeated medical practitioner - Linvale Bloomfield and Dr. Dennis Minott, a former Jamaica Labour Party caretaker.
However, there were reportedly tense moments at the Annotto Bay Primary and Junior High School where the South-East St. Mary ballots were cast. Periodic uproar forced the police to increase the security detachment on the compound.
Meanwhile, Mr. White is claiming that his and the names of his supporters were left off the voters' list and according to him, this affected his chances at the polls.
PNP Deputy General Secretary, Linton Walters, who directed the selections in Eastern Portland said only one incident among rival supporters occurred outside the polling station at the Port Antonio High School.
But Dr. Rhodd said there were incidents at the polling station, which he will be reporting to the PNP hierarchy.
