Dad poisons kids, kills himself on Father's Day
published: Tuesday | June 20, 2006

PORT-OF-SPAIN (Trinidad Express):

POLICE ARE probing a murder-suicide as Trinidad was rocked on Sunday when a man poisoned his children and killed himself after they came to spend Father's Day with him.

Anand Seecharan, 32, of Sangre Grande, administered poison to his six-year-old daughter Tilly, who was found dead, and seven-year-old son Adesh, then drank the poison killing himself.

Seecharan's son Adesh was up to yesterday in critical condition at the Sangre Grande District Hospital.

MOTIVE UNKNOWN

Neighbours and police are uncertain as to why he would commit such an act. The children were said to have been living with their mother, Seeta, in another area. The couple separated a month ago.

One neighbour told the Express Sunday that he came home around 2.30 p.m. and found Seecharan dead in some bushes near to the deceased's small wooden house.

To his horror, he found Adesh, battling for life, on the bed next to his dead sister. At the time he was still clutching his sister's body.

The bodies of Seecharan and his daughter were later taken to the Sangre Grande Mortuary.
