Praise for JCF reform

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAVE read with interest the comment of the outgoing president of the Police Officers Association, ACP Leon Rose. I would like to think that ACP Rose is aware that these men are seconded to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and that one-third of their salary is being paid by the British government and Jamaican private sector companies.
If indeed ACP Rose knows that fact, is it really the salary that is an issue, or is that some officers of the JCF are smarting from the high level of professionalism they brought with them? This is shown in the number of arrests and prosecution of criminals and also the conviction of others using good investigation techniques, thus proving that the justice system is working and can work.
Therefore, our crime fighters can use the system without resorting to the use of unnecessary force or murder.
I must commend the members of the JCF who are reform-minded and are working hard in making this operation a success.
I am, etc.,
