Residents irate over closed police station
published: Friday | June 23, 2006

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

THE POLICE high command and the Minister of National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips, came in for heavy criticism from residents of more than 24 communities, at a special meeting convened at Belefield. Residents are peeved that the Williamsfield Police Station, which serves them, has been ordered closed.

Superintendent Michael James, the officer in charge of the Manchester police, fielded questions from nearly 300 residents. He said the landlord and the Government are at odds over the rental contract, and as such the station had to close.

If closed, residents will have to travel or call Porus or Kendal police stations, five and 10 miles away respectively, for help.
