THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WOULD like to fully support the recent statement of Bruce Golding regarding the danger of links with Hugo Chavez putting us in the anti-U.S. camp.
It is a fact that Chavez is a virulent opposer of the U.S. and George Bush. It is also a fact that he has tried to interfere in the elections of countries in South and Central America to get anti-U.S. candidates elected.
There appears to be benefits from the PetroCaribe agreement and our link with Venezuela. However, the benefits from a close link with the U.S. are far greater.
The U.S. provides the greater part of our foreign investment, our tourists, our remittances and our foreign aid.
The U.S. should and could do much more to help this country and alleviate poverty. But will they if our best friend is their enemy?
Remember, you are known by the company you keep.
I am, etc.,
