UWI launches new publication
published: Saturday | June 24, 2006

THE UNIVERSITY of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, has launched the first regional publication dedicated to philanthropy.

'The Gift: the Journal for Caribbean Philanthropy' was launched at the Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy, held in May at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club in Montego Bay, St. James.

Geared at cultivating and sustaining a culture of social reinvestment, The Gift examines a range of topics which include the role of government in the region's philanthropic programmes, management and planning strategies for non-profits, corporate social responsibility, the importance of building philanthropic partnership-networks and the increasing importance of philanthropy to nation building in the Caribbean.

Contributors to the first issue come from the private sector and charitable backgrounds as well as regional and international academia. They include: Sir George Alleyne, UWI Chancellor; Jean Augustine, special adviser on Grenada to the Prime Minister of Canada; Beverly Dinham-Spencer, CEO, Strategic Management & Training Consultants; Ulric Warner, strategic and administration manager, Phoenix Park Gas Processors, Trinidad, and Peter Goldson, partner, Myers, Fletcher and Gordon, Jamaica.

The journal also includes social responsibility reports from the Digicel Foundation and financial service providers Dehring, Bunting & Golding.
