CUMBERLAND ARE the champions of the Senator Arthur Williams/Port-more Under-15 football league.
Cumberland lifted the Arthur Williams Trophy with a 3-2 victory over Hamilton Gardens in the final played at Passagefort playing field.
Damar Smith (seventh minute), Adeka Rickman (40th) and Romaine Bryan (42nd) scored for Cumberland while Derux Brown (17th) and Sanjay Williams (80th) replied for Hamilton Gardens.
Cumberland's coach, Orville Taylor, was delighted with the victory after winning his third title at the youth level in the Sunshine City.
"I knew once I reached the final it would be a easy victory. Any team I came up against, I knew I would beat them 3-1 or 3-2," Taylor said.
He added that he believed in the talent of his boys and they came through for him.
Hamilton Gardens' coach, Oyinco McTaggart, was on the other hand disappointed with his goalkeeper Omar Harley who, in his view, cost his team the match.
POOR GAME
"We didn't execute the game plan, the goalkeeper had a poor game and that cost us the match, we just have to try bounce back next year," he said.
The opening goal came when playmaker Dalan Gibbs' floating corner kick from the left side beat an out-of-position Hamilton Gardens goalkeeper Harley as Damar Smith rushed to the far post and headed into an empty net.
The equaliser came via Brown who netted during a mix-up in front of the Cumberland goal 10 minutes later. The lead was however restored by Rickman who fired home from close range on the stroke of halftime.
Cumberland extended their lead two minutes into the second half when Bryan's long-range free kick dipped under the crossbar and into the back of the net.
Hamilton Gardens' Williams scored in the final minute of play to complete the scoring (3-2) a goal that came a little too late.
At the end of the match, Senator Arthur Williams presented the captain of Cumberland, Mark Marsh, with the trophy as his teammates cheered in the background.
