Save kids from molestation
published: Sunday | June 25, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM in tears for the children who are being sexually molested. It is scary to see how much sexual abuse of children has skyrocketed.

Mrs. Betty-Ann Blaine, children's rights activist, and Dr. Grace Kelly, president of the Association of Guidance Counsellors, are to be commended for coming to the assistance of the children who are helpless and in need of some persons speaking out on their behalf.

This is a crisis, this is serious, more people need to get involved. One of the many ways to let your voices be heard is to send letters to the ministers and community members/leaders with picket signs and do not take no for an answer. We march for other causes, let this be on your to-do list. This is not to say that these organisations are not doing their best, but they can't do it alone.

As a mother myself, I am appealing to all mothers, it is imperative that you watch your children more closely. It is your duty as a parent/guardian to protect your children at any cost. You are in a better position to see if your child begins to act differently.

The court system needs to be revised by implementing new laws for sexual predators. Time behind bars only allows them to fulfil their sexual appetites anyway, because they are able to prey on other prisoners. Harsh as it may sound, I believe that chemical castration or surgery would be a constant reminder of the crime they have committed against children and a warning to those who are thinking of doing it.

I am, etc.,
