Security at May Pen Hospital on red alert
published: Thursday | June 29, 2006

MAY PEN, Clarendon:

A POLICE post has been established at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon following a series of attacks on personnel at the institution.

In the latest incident, two female patients were allegedly threatened by men dressed in porter's uniforms.

It is reported that the two women were admitted to the hospital last Friday after they were attacked by three armed men in the May Pen Car Park.

They have since been transferred from the institution.

Superintendent in charge of the Clarendon Police Derrick Knight said that the police will now assume control of security at the institution along with the existing private security personnel.

"The premises are huge and is surrounded by what we call economically challenged communities," he said, noting that additional security had become necessary.

Meanwhile Senior Medical Officer at the hospital Dr. Winston Dawes said that the new security measure is critical. "It has been long overdue," he said yesterday speaking on Good Evening Jamaica on Power 106 FM.
