Melanie and Rolf Treiber share a tender moment after they exchanged vows and rings.
MELANIE BAILEY, 33 and Rolf Treiber, 36, met while working on a project at an alumina refinery four years ago. At the time she was a project engineer at the company and he was an engineer at the German company BOKELA.
They developed a friendship and kept in touch by email and telephone for one year before they started dating. During two years of dating, they visited each other on numerous occasions. Rolf visited Jamaica at every opportunity (six times in two years) and Melanie took a European vacation with him each year, spending at least two weeks at a time including in his hometown of Heidelberg.
It was after their trip to France in June of last year that Rolf popped the question. After checking out a half-dozen venues, they selected the Mona Visitors' Lodge to celebrate their special day.
The couple worked closely with the events co-ordinator to plan 'a wedding with a difference'. Originally planned for the lawns of the Lodge, the rains came but through good planning and swift work, the happy occasion was simply moved indoors. The theme colours were gold and burgundy with floral design by Charmaine Lue Yen and Company.
Nearly 100 guests including a few from overseas attended the wedding. Rolf's cousin, Rainer Mueller was his bestman while Melanie's maid of honour was friend, Anuradha Permashwar. To symbolise the union of two cultures, Rolf delivered the groom's reply part in German and part in English. The couple's first dance was to I've Finally Found Someone.
Marriage officer Silvera Castro performed the ceremony and MC'd the reception.
