WESTERN BUREAU:

THE ROTARY Club of Fal-mouth, Trelawny, has a new leader. Audrey Barrett was conferred with the presidency at an installation ceremony at the Glistening Waters Restaurant in the parish on Saturday night.

Mrs. Barrett is the wife of Roylan Barrett, Custos Rotulorum for Trelawny.

She succeeds immediate past President Elmyria Robinson, who served the club for the past year.

In passing on the baton, Robinson said: "You have been elected to the office of president by the club's members. It is an expression of their confidence in your leadership."

Mrs. Barrett paid special recognition to former presidents who had given distinguished service in getting the club beyond the 'teeth-ing pain' stage, since its existence four years ago.

As the club approaches a new year, President Barrett said in spite of being relatively young, the club was very well shaped and was poised for real action.

She vowed that they would lead the way in all avenues of service, adding that the club had designed an entire year of various activities and projects to undertake.

"This is not to distract from our ability to become leaders in a town that is soon to see significant changes in its social and economic landscape," she commented.

OVERCOMING TASKS

Deliberating on the changes to come, she noted that the town of Falmouth had been causing great concerns over the past few weeks, but stressed their relentlessness to overcome the tasks being faced, as club members were determined to work towards a common goal.

Guest speaker, Oliver Clarke, chairman and managing director of The Gleaner Company, urged the club members and the wider Trelawny community to claim and utilise the best kept secret in Jamaica. This he described as "the management control of the ICC Cricket World Cup", scheduled for kick-off in the parish in March 2007.
