Bog Walk juvenile crimes up
published: Monday | July 3, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THERE HAS been a noticeable rise in criminal activities by juveniles in Bog Walk, St. Catherine, according to the police in that area.

A senior investigator told The Gleaner that one juvenile who was facing the court on firearm charges went into the neighbouring parish of St. Mary, along with other men, and allegedly committed a robbery. He escaped the wrath of residents who chopped one of his accomplices to death and, as a result, came to the Bog Walk Police Station and turned himself in. He is awaiting transfer to be tried by the court in St. Mary.

The Gleaner also learnt that one of two school boys, who were caught by the police with an illegal firearm a week ago, is still in custody. His colleague has since been granted bail.

RECENT RECOVERIES

Reports are that, about midday, June 23, a police party acting on intelligence went into the Bog Walk area and raided a gambling spot where the schoolboys were caught in their uniforms, a bag they had was searched and a Webley and Scott revolver with six lives rounds was found. The boys, were charged and one was granted bail while the other remained in custody.

The police say they are concerned as there is also a high level of violence in schools in the area.

Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe recently echoed the concerns of the police, lamenting the prevalence of knives and even guns in schools.
