Jamaica Ship Registry a hit at Posidonia 2006
published: Tuesday | July 4, 2006

THE JAMAICA Ship Registry (JSR) aims to excel in all it does, and its participation at Posidonia 2006 in Athens, Greece, over the period June 5-9 was no exception.

The JSR's booth was truly committed to quality in its offerings. Amid the Jamaican colours of black, green and gold, visitors were treated to what the JSR had to offer by Eric Deans, registrar general and director of shipping policy and research, as well as Bertrand Smith, legal director, both from Jamaica's maritime administration, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica.

To sweeten the visit, there was fine Jamaican distilled Appleton Rum and reggae music, which had visitors sipping and swinging.

However, it was not all play, as the hundreds of visitors kept both men busy. Numerous enquiries for ship registration were received, some of which have already been translated into business for the Jamaica Ship Registry.

LARGEST COMMERCIAL EVENT

Posidonia is the largest commercial event in the shipping calendar. It is held biennially in Greece and is dubbed the world's biggest shipping trade exhibition. The event brings the global shipping industry together where providers and users of services may meet and form alliances that are mutually beneficial.

This year saw more than 1,600 exhibitors from 80 countries, spread over an area of 26,500 square metres.

Exhibitors run the gamut of maritime organisations and companies, from ship builders to classification societies, to ship registries, ship insurance, repairs, financing, bunkering, and many other core and ancillary service providers.

Coverage of the event was just as extensive. According to the organisers, "Nearly 300 Greek and international journalists were registered for the event, representing the full spectrum of the world's shipping specialist media as well as major global news agencies including Reuters, Bloomberg and Dow Jones Newswires."

The JSR's booth was shared by Primal Ship Management Inc., and Quantum Registration Services Inc, both providing deputy registration services to the JSR, as well as the JSR's overseas public relations consultants, Elaborate Communications Limited.
