No to condoms!
published: Wednesday | July 5, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IS THE act of buggery still illegal in Jamaica? The answer to this should be a unanimous yes.

So, why is the issuing of condoms in prison being considered?

The decision to issue condoms to inmates can be interpreted as condoning worse yet encouraging the act of buggery.

Instead of issuing condoms to inmates, harsh penalties should be put in place to punish those found to be committing buggery.

In my opinion, it is no different from giving a thief the necessary tools to commit a heist.

The HIV/AIDS rate has to be taken into account as well but the best form of safe sex is no sex or abstinence which is what needs to be enforced in these prisons instead of the issuing of condoms to the inmates.

I am, etc.,

DISGRUNTLED CITIZEN

Portmore, St. Catherine
