Three on kidnapping charges remanded
published: Wednesday | July 5, 2006

FORMER TEACHER Steve McCalla, who is charged jointly with two women for the alleged kidnapping of two female life insurance agents, appeared in the Home Circuit Court last Friday.

Mr. Justice Mahadev Duk-haran remanded them until this Friday when the case will be mentioned.

The allegations are that in March this year, McCalla and 19-year-old higgler Crystal Lewis and 17-year-old Tashena Bromfield rented an apartment in the New Kingston area.

CALLED AGENTS

It is alleged that they called two female agents at Life of Jamaica telling them they wanted to buy insurance policies.

When the women turned up at the apartment at different times on March 14, they were tied up, beaten and robbed of money, credit cards and their motor cars.

The women managed to free themselves and made reports to the police. The three were subsequently arrested and charged with kidnapping.

They are also charged with robbery with aggravation and conspiracy, as it is further alleged that when the police searched the apartment of the accused, items belonging to the two female agents were found.
