SECURITY ISSUES dominated the 27th Heads of Government Conference in Basseterre, St. Kitts, yesterday.
Returning from a one-day retreat in Nevis, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said that the talks had been productive, but deferred further comments to CARICOM Secretary General, Edwin Carrington.
Mr. Carrington told The Gleaner that the discussions were intense. "We have had many hard issues on the table," he said.
Yesterday, Dr. Peter Phillips, the chairman of CARICOM's sub-committee for resource management on World Cup Cricket 2007, also presented a proposal on security measures for World Cup Cricket 2007. The plan was arrived at following a meeting of regional security ministers in Antigua, last week.
It proposes that larger countries financially assist their smaller neighbours and also outlines the process to lobby donor countries.
