Scholarships awarded to students islandwide

RACQUEL WHYTE of Immaculate Conception Preparatory School, St. Andrew and Kevin Robinson of Mt. Alvernia Preparatory School, St. James, outperformed their peers in this year's Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), copping the Scotia Bank award for the top girl and boy, respectively.

Racquel will be attending Immaculate Conception High School, St. Andrew, while Kevin will move on to Cornwall College, St. James.

Fifty-one thousand two hundred and four students sat the GSAT in March. Thirty-seven students who were awarded scholarships are from primary schools, while 31 are from private schools.

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The Government scholarships were awarded to 28 students: 14 boys and 14 girls.

Amonique Cunningham of St. Richard's Primary School received the J.A.G Smith scholarship for the most outstanding girl from a primary, all-age or junior high school, while Shane Richards of the same school copped the George William Gordon scholarship for placing second in a primary, all-age or junior high school.

The students were placed at Immaculate Conception High and Campion College, respectively.

Hamesh Creighton of St. Peter Claver Primary, Kingston, copped the Marcus Garvey Scholarship for the top boy of a primary, all-age or junior high school. He will move on to Campion College.

Zoundria Kanhai, of Balcombe Drive Primary and Junior High was awarded the Scotia Bank top performer for the county of Surrey, while Shanroy Dennis of York Town Primary was the top performer for Middlesex. Ashleigh Campbell of Catherine Hall Primary and Infant School, St. James, was the top performer for the county of Cornwall.

ST THOMAS WINNER

Meanwhile, Hamesh Creighton of St. Peter Claver Primary was awarded the Marcus Garvey scholarship for the top boy from a primary, all-age and primary and junior high school. He will be attending Campion College.

Rushane Burgher of Lyssons Primary received the Paul Bogle scholarship for the top boy from a primary, all-age, or primary and junior high school in St. Thomas.
