PITTERSON
FORMER NATIONAL player turned head coach of Jamaica's Sunshine Girls, Oberon Pitterson, has resigned.
Pitterson's resignation came on Monday, and according to the Jamaica Netball Association president Marva Bernard, Pitterson's reasons for resigning remain a mystery.
"Personal reasons, private reasons, I haven't really been able to speak to her but she has indicated that the reasons are personal and I have to respect that," said Bernard.
SILENCE REGARDING REASONS
However, Pitterson's silence regarding her reasons for resigning has left rumours circulating that she has chosen to focus more on basketball because she has been having problems juggling the two.
According to the rumours, Pitterson was having difficulty with playing for the national basketball team and carrying out her duties as coach of Jamaica's netball team. That, along with her job and pursuing her master's degree at the University of the West Indies, Mona, was probably a little too much for one person.
"People have choices to make and wherever people find their commitments can best be served, then that is where they have to be," said Bernard. "I know she loves both netball and basketball and what her future is I have no idea because she hasn't told me.
TIMELY NOTICE
"What we want to do is really appreciate what she has given to netball over the years."
Bernard went on to point out that it was fortunate that Pitterson had given her the resignation in a timely fashion and allowed her to find a replacement with enough time to plan for future championships.
"I appreciate that she told me now before we are one year out from a major tournament," said Bernard. Bernard also explained that she would be holding an executive meeting in the near future so as to make a plan for what to do and who will replace Pitterson.
Attempts to contact Pitterson proved unsuccessful.
