Can a woman be happy without a man?
published: Monday | July 10, 2006

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

WHEN I first asked a male friend whether he thought a woman could live without a man, the first thing he said was, "a straight woman, or one who gone the other way?"

That's how some men think. If a woman says she's done with men that means she's a lesbian. Not the case every time, we know, so relax ladies not all of us think that way.

Just for clarity, we're talking about heterosexual women who don't believe male companionship is necessary for their survival. I think a woman can live without a man and be happy and fulfilled all at the same time. It's dependent on what it takes to satisfy that particular woman in the first place. One cynical friend George Malonesaid he knows at least his mom can live without a man.

"My father hasn't exactly been the rock of the family so if he croaked tomorrow, it's all good. Mom did it mostly by herself anyway," he said rather coarsely. He figures if she can do it, what's stopping others? But some guys remain unconvinced.

"No sah. If is even a little boyfriend who get more attention than the rest, woman must have a man in them life; just like man must have a woman," roars Rufus Grantley.

Sex-wise, with all these toys they're creating these days, the physical pleasure of the whole thing is not an issue. Women will argue they're not missing anything if no man's around. (Interesting comment since women always say there's more to a relationship than sex. Hmm).

In any case, if she has many male 'friends' then she doesn't need just one for that. And we've heard plenty of jokes about having cats and dogs for the companionship angle. Then there's the whole independent woman thing. I am woman, hear me roar; blah, blah, blah!

But at the end of a tiring day it's always nice to have someone to come home to, talk to, help take care of the little one(s), if there are any and just somebody you can walk through this twisted journey we call life. And then when anything needs to be fixed around the house, who do they call? Not the ghostbusters! Let's face it, some women are just too bothered to do it themselves. And how about when they're going into potentially nervy areas? They call a few men to 'follow them'. They aren't roaring now are they?

All we're saying is some women can live without a man for sure! But not many!
