MANY TOP guns and head haunches in Jamaica's private financial sector came out Wednesday evening, to herald the new chief executive officer of Marathon Insurance Brokers (MIB), Keisha Burgher.
The chairman of MIB, Richard Burgher, and the new CEO's father, was all smiles as he passed the baton to his daughter, and he 'phased himself out of Marathon'. Ms. Burgher, however, was not just handed the post on the virtue of her lineage, but was selected by an executive search team headed by Dr. Henley Morgan as the most suitable candidate for the post. "I can't help but feel a bit of fatherly pride to see her take the reins as CEO," said Mr. Burgher at the reception.
Mr. Burgher can rest easy with the assurance (no pun intended) that MIB lies in able hands. Her professional feats both inside and outside the insurance industry speak volumes for her capability in effectively handling the job; like any good CEO she is dynamic and multifaceted as described by her father.
"She was quite a business woman before she joined us," he said, "she ran from cellular franchises to hair dressing shops, to soup kitchens." Now she is running an insurance brokerage and she is enthusiastic about the post.
While at the reception, Ms. Burgher was busy charming her guests and relaying cheerful anecdotes and even selling them on a new insurance product, 'Home Contents Direct'. She probably figured that she'd conduct some business since she was already in the company of so many business people - a clear indication that she has already warmed up for the post.
