Named by 'Cosmopolitan' and 'Elle' magazines as one of summer's hottest items, Brazil's lowly flip-flops Havaianas are moving upmarket and going global. In Jamaica, Havaianas are available in fine stores islandwide and distributed by Walk Good Jamaica. - CONTRIBUTED
THE SWELTERING heat of the summer sun leaves every inch of your body craving cooling relief, even your feet. Why constantly restrict your poor little toes to full-shoes when they are begging for a little fresh air? It's just cruel to stifle those poor little piggies.
Sandals and slippers are now reaching new heights in design as they are beginning to look more like intricate pieces of artwork in all their embellished, accentuated and adorned glory. Say goodbye to those ugly supermarket slippers, and herald the advent of a new era in foot fashion. Slippers and sandals have evolved to a state where they are more than just a convenience, but a fashion statement. Still, do not use this as an excuse to wear sandals in inappropriate locations such as the workplace, or on a visit to Gordon House.
Other than the fashion factor, another good reason to wear sandals is to avoid bacterial infection of the feet. Bacteria find solace in warm temperatures and humid conditions; and when your feet are in shoes, they are like the bacteria's haven.
Nevertheless, if you do intend to sport sandals or slippers in public, it is expected that you get your feet in order before you slip on a lovely pair. Million dollar sandals on two dollar
toes does not make an attractive picture.
