No more than J$20
published: Monday | July 10, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

HOW IS it that those who are in authority are thinking of having residents of Portmore paying a toll fee that is unaffordable? This is ridiculous. Ja$20.00 is enough.

To make this thing more attractive, I think it should be manageable enough, therefore more persons would ply the route.

The cost of everything is high in Jamaica, and for persons who are earning minimum wage, how are they going to survive this wicked act? Some persons are of the perception that once you live in Portmore, you have money. That is not so. Housing in Portmore was designed primarily for low-income persons.

The government is pretending not to be aware of what is happening here. This is our country and I blame us because we sit back and allow these things to happen to us and say nothing. Therefore things get out of hand. How are we going to pay this toll?

The government is not concerned about the citizen; they really don't care if we die or if we live. They should be for the people, not against the people.

To me this is a situation where you force persons who drive to park their vehicles and take the public transportation. If this is done then you (government) won't realise revenue from petrol.

If you care about us and this county, Jamaica land we love, think about us when you are making decisions for our country.

I am etc.,
