JUST-PROMOTED NATIONAL Premier League team August Town Football Club, champions of the Super League, were the main recipients at Friday's Jamaica National (JN)/Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) awards ceremony hosted at the Alhambra Inn.
Duhaney Park FC and the University of Technology (UTech), winners of the Major and Syd Bartlett leagues, also won their fair share of prizes.
Top football official Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis, who is also a long-time KSAFA executive, was honoured too with a plaque highlighting his many contributions throughout the years in different aspects of the sport.
August Town topped the evening as they walked away with the championship trophy for the Super League along with a cheque for $380,000 and an award to striker Nicholas Smith for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the competition.
OTHER RECIPIENTS
The other awardees for the Confederation's top league were runners-up Meadheaven United, who won the Fair Play Award, the Best Goalkeeper (Andrew Gibbson), Coach of the Year (David Hunt) and a cheque for $170,000.
Third place Santos FC and fourth place Police National received $100,000 and $70,000 respectively, while Sheldon Campbell of Police National earned for himself the Leading Goal Scorer Award.
Major League champions, Duhaney Park, collected $180,000 for that success and also saw their goalkeeper, Omar Williams, receive an award for being the best in his field as well as the tournament's MVP. Their coach, Utah Blade, was named the league's Coach of the Year.
Runners-up Cavalier received the cash award of $100,000 and had the Leading Goal Scorer as well, Jermaine Rowe.
Fourth place Real Mona got $50,000 and the Fair Play Award, while third place Pembroke Hall received $70,000.
In the Syd Bartlett presentations, UTech walked away with top prize of $80,000, the MVP award to Terrence Burton, Coach of the Year Award to Nicholas Kamaka and Top Goalkeeper Tawanie Black.
Second place Seview Gardens received $60,000 and had their keeper Greg Witter share the Top Goalkeeper award. Third place Swallowfield received $50,000, while fourth place New Kingston received awards for Fair Play and Leading Goal Scorer (Malcore Moses), as well as $40,000.
Ambassador Stewart Stephen-son, KSAFA's president, viewed the Confederation's senior
competitions as a total success in preparing quality players for the national team and sang praises to the sponsors of the three competitions, JN, for increasing their sponsorship from two to $2.5 million for the season.
Lisa Kow, executive manager of JN, views the company's partnership as a way of shaping great footballers.
"This partnership with KSAFA has allowed us to keep abreast with the development of the sport and to contribute in our own way to shaping great footballers," she noted.
