Best female for principal
published: Wednesday | July 12, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I was pleasantly surprised to note that it is Mrs. Margaret Campbell who is being touted to be the new principal of St. George's College. I too have been concerned that a woman had been selected to be principal of the school. I sincerely believe that there is no 'technical' reason why a woman could not handle this particular role at St. George's. My personal fear (as an ex-Georgian) was that a woman would not be able to preserve the character of the institution.

If there is a lady who understands and could actually maintain the character of St. George's, I believe that to be Margaret. Why? Her entire family is steeped in the tradition of St. George's. Her father (ex-principal), husband, brothers were all ex-Georgians. So long as she meets the other 'technical' requirements, I strongly support the idea of her being principal of St. George's.

I am, etc.,

DAVID MARTIN
