THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM sure many Jamaicans like myself must be wondering what is the role of Parliament when politicians like Ms. Verna Parchment are allowed to use the space as a medium to vent her personal feelings, and involve in virtual 'lick back' at the party from which she recently made her exit. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and should not be allowed to take place in what should be an honourable House.
It is obvious that Ms. Parchment was strongly supported by her party members. They should know, however, that they were not doing her or the country any good. They were merely endorsing poor behaviour. Politics is at an all-time low in this country and actions like these only serve to further cramp the political style. The politicians should be bridging the political divide rather than endorsing actions that serve to widen the rift between them.
Politicians should take their 'cass-cass' off the parliamentary floor and make way for informed opinions and debates that address critical issues, which make for positive upliftment of our beloved country.
No, Ms. Parchment, someone should have told you that that was the wrong way to go. Parliament should not be treated as a playing ground where politicians behave like angry little children spewing their venom at others who infuriate them.
I am, etc.,
