THE EDITOR, Sir:
INSANITY. THAT is how I characterise the toll for using the Portmore toll bridge. Could the minister and his Prime Minister explain to residents of Portmore and myself where we will find over $120 a day? Maybe we should sacrifice our lunch, starve for the day, lower work productivity and pay our toll which will eventually head out to France in valuable foreign currency.
Over the last few nights, my friends were talking about how we will pay the toll. One said the best option now is to drop telephone as we Jamaicans talk too much anyway. All jokes aside though, we all agreed to register our dissent in the upcoming elections and make history in Portmore. I also can't wait for local government elections so that we can find ourselves a new mayor.
I would like to use this medium to press the residents of Portmore and environs to boycott the toll, even if it means leaving for work at 4:00 a.m. I can't see how this toll road will work in the best interest, as the minister annoyingly states time and time again. I would also like to highlight my grave disappointment with the handling of the toll road crisis by our Prime Minister.
I am, etc.,
