Eldad Campbell takes top junior title
published: Wednesday | July 12, 2006

CAMPBELL

ELDAD CAMPBELL justified his position as the island's top junior when he added the Pan Caribbean All-Jamaica Junior tennis title to his collection, getting by Christopher Lawson in three sets in Monday's final at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre.

After taking the first set 6-4, Campbell dropped the second 6-1 but then rallied to get by Lawson 6-4 to wrap up the tournament's Under-18 crown.
In Under-16 action, the day belonged to Adam Vaz and he easily defeated Matthew Rodriguez 6-1, 6-1. Things were also easy for Brandon Burke as he blew away Randy Phillips 6-0, 6-1 to emerge the top player in the tournament's Under-14 division.

In the girls' 18 category, Calisia Reid got the better of rival Shaneka Knight in straight sets, turning back her opponent 6-3, 6-2, while in girls' 14 action, Sicquena Sinclair came from behind to get the better of Shantal Blackwood in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

In girls' Under-12 action, Blackwood defeated Michael-Ann Denton 6-1, 6-2.

The tournament is expected to serve as a valuable preparation for the juniors, many of whom will take part in the upcoming ITF Jamaica Junior International Championship to be held from July 15-22, also at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre.
