Restaurant: Dynasty Jade

Location: Trafalgar Road, New Kingston

On the menu: Chinese dishes

Opening hours: Every day 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Contact: 386-9986.

ANOTHER CHINESE Restaurant has sprung up in town. Dynasty Jade is owned and operated by two brothers, Ivan and Jimmy Yu, both from China.

Opened approximately six weeks ago, the restaurant is still in its early phases. Final decorative touches are yet to be made, such as filling-up an empty fish tank that stands at the entrance.

However, customers are strolling into Dynasty Jade. Within half-hour of the visit by our Food team, more than six persons came for take-out meals. However, daily dining and a lunch buffet are also offered at the restaurant.

MEALS DONE TO ORDER

On the menu are approximately 15 Chinese dishes, including wonton soup served with chicken, pork or shrimp; fried rice; chow mein; sweet and sour chicken, fish or shrimp and roast pork or chicken. There is also a bar that the brothers say is under expansion but it currently offers several wines, champagnes and drinks.

Jimmy Yu, a chef trained in China, has been in Jamaica for 12 years. Having worked at a restaurant himself, he said, "Every time I go to a restaurant I don't really like what is being offered. So I decided to open a restaurant to get some of the food I prefer."

Meals are done by order at the restaurant. This procedure, he says, is to ensure that meals are freshly served.

If you are ever in New Kingston and want cheap, convenient Chinese food, Dynasty Jade should be a good choice.
