GOVERNOR-GENERAL, Professor Kenneth Hall says the winners of the National Farm Queen and Champion Young Farmer - two of the agriculture sector's most notable awards - should be accredited with the Governor General's Award.
The Governor General made the pronouncement during a courtesy call last Tuesday by president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Senator Norman Grant and National Farm Queen winner, Deidre Hudson at Kings House.
Professor Hall said such an award was deserving as the youth arm of our society possessed the ability for advancing the nation. The tour was organised to officially recognise former Governor General, Sir Howard Cooke's contribution to agriculture and reaffirm Professor Hall's continuous support for the sector. Professor Hall also agreed to host the quarterly board meetings of the JAS at Kings House to facilitate the discussion of fundamental agricultural issues.
