AN emergency meeting is scheduled to be held at the Suthermere Preparatory School tomorrow at 9:00 a.m., to address the impending closure of the school.
Scores of angry and confused parents have been left in a tailspin, since The Gleaner reported on Monday that the school will be closed, come July 31. Many parents are claiming they have already made preparations for the new school year and the news of a closure is distressing.
Subsequent information has revealed that the Life of Jamaica (LoJ) Winchester residential estate has acquired the property on which the school operates.
CLARIFYING THE MATTER
Vice-Principal Eugene Rose told The Gleaner that the meeting will be held to clarify the matter of closure, as the school is considering several options.
"We do not want the school to be closed, we are working for that as the school will be forming a new management," Ms. Rose said.
She also said that, while no specifics have been decided on with regards to the future of the school, the matter should be clearer at the end of the meeting.
Scott Burke, managing director of the school, told The Gleaner last week that the school was being closed due to non-payment of rent, bankruptcy and possible financial irregularities. Teachers at the institution have, however, denied those claims. They have also claimed that the school was not paying rent as the
property was owned and operated by Mr. Burke's family.
