SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
SEVERAL PERSONS were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital for treatment after receiving injuries in an accident along the Highway 2000 toll road, yesterday.
According to the Spanish Town police, about 6:00 a.m., a Toyota Hiace passenger bus en route from Mandeville to Kingston overturned about 100 metres after exiting
the Spanish Town Toll Plaza, injuring several of the 14 passengers on board.
SWING FROM SIDE TO SIDE
With a neck brace and one arm in
a sling, Mellissa Graham, one of the passengers, told her story.
"I was coming from Mandeville and, after the driver paid to go through the toll, the vehicle started to swing from side to side and he was trying hard to control it and he could not. It just run across the road an tun ova pon di top," she said.
She told The Gleaner the accident left her suffering severely as the vehicle turned over on the side she was sitting.
This is the fourth accident on the toll road since the start of the year. The last was a 13-vehicle collision in which several persons were injured.
The police have attributed the accident to mechanical defects.
